Hi all,

Welcome to the Summer 2022 edition of the Future Technical Communicators newsletter! Summer is here, and with that, another school year is complete. Congratulations to each of you for making it through the semester. A special shoutout goes to each of our newly graduated members and those graduating this summer. You have accomplished so much to reach this goal and your futures are bright! Know that the FTC community always has your back, and you are always welcome to stay involved; we love seeing our alumni.

Moving forward, FTC hopes to build on the foundations we set this year by refining what we have and continuing to evolve. To help our club do so, we have put together an End-of-Year survey. We would love to hear your feedback and invite you to take a few minutes to share your thoughts and ideas about your FTC experiences this year with us.

In this newsletter, you will find the following:

We look forward to seeing all that is to come for FTC and the experiences that our club’s members and leaders, both returning and new, will forge together. If there is any way that FTC can assist you, email us at ucf.ftc@gmail.com or feel free to start a conversation on our Discord server.

FTC’s Year in Review (2021-2022)

By John Clement

President, Future Technical Communicators club at UCF

With a plethora of guest speaker meetings and networking events, the Future Technical Communicators club has been as active as it has ever been this past school year. We also had opportunities to make FTC go beyond just UCF in our ventures to Otronicon Tech Expo and the STC Summit, two big initiatives that our attendees had a great and informative time at. Finally, our club continues to be a big family with our social events and our active Discord. To celebrate and recognize all that and more, here is a comprehensive recap of FTC’s 2021-2022 program year.

March 2022 Newsletter

Hi everyone,

Welcome to FTC’s March 2022 newsletter! We hope you had a great spring break. As we enter the second half of the semester, we wish you all the best with your classes, and for those graduating, we send our encouragement to you as you reach the finish line.

So far already, this semester has been one of the most active that FTC has had yet. We are grateful for all the attendance at our weekly meetings and the guest speakers who have joined and lent us their time. Our other club initiatives have also gone well. Last month, FTC student volunteers had a fun and successful time at Otronicon, introducing tech comm to a younger audience. Beyond that, we held a tabling event on campus, hosted a t-shirt contest, and continued our mentoring program. It’s an exciting time to be part of FTC.

Currently, our club’s most ambitious initiative is reaching for the Summit. Seven of our members signed up to be attendees and have successfully received funding from the Student Government. However, our group still needs more support to reach our goal of having all our costs covered. As such, we have set up a fundraiser. Please consider contributing to and sharing it to help make this trip a reality.

We’re ready to reveal a few other announcements, too, including: (1) FTC t-shirts, now available for order, (2) leadership training for interested members happening in May, and (3) a reunion banquet at the end of the semester to celebrate our 20 year anniversary! Take a look at each one. We hope you are able to participate in and enjoy them all, and we have aimed to make each of our programs inclusive, whether you are a remote or local student.

Each week for the rest of the semester, we will continue to host general body meetings. These include guest speaker meetings and a couple of socials, including the previously mentioned reunion.

Want a birds-eye view of everything we’re offering? Look no further than our brand new table of contents below.

All the best,

February 2022 Newsletter

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the February 2022 edition of the FTC newsletter! Would you believe it if I told you that our club is just over two decades old now? It’s incredible to think about. In celebration of this, we’re planning something special. Each year we have a joint meeting with STC Florida, and this time around, it will also be a reunion of sorts. We will be bringing back former FTC leaders to guest speak with us! It will be a panel to remember.

That’s not the only reason this month will be a big one for FTC. We have three guest speaker events total happening that you won’t want to miss:

  • Friday, February 4, 6:00 – 7:30 PM — L3Harris Guest Speaker Presentation
  • Friday, February 11, 6:00 – 7:30 PM — Resume Righting ft. Guest Speaker John Paz
  • Friday, February 25, 6:30 – 8:30 PM — STC-FTC Joint Meeting: Where are they now? ft. Past FTC Leaders

Each event will be held fully online over Zoom and is open to everyone. Yes, everyone. Current member? Graduated? Ambiguously-in-between? Absolutely! Bring your technical communication questions and come ready to receive great technical communication advice and even make new connections at each. We’d love to see everyone attend this month’s events.

Other things to note:

  • We’d still like to know who is interested in learning about or attending the STC Summit. If so, please fill out our brief interest form by February 11.
  • We have a few new FTC articles coming your way this month, some topic-based and others about available job and internships out there. Be on the lookout!
  • FTC will be attending Otronicon on the weekend of Feb 18. There will be no GBM that weekend, but if you’ll be attending the expo, you’re more than welcome to visit our group.

Read on for more. See you around soon at our upcoming programs!

John Clement
